Both banks are owned by the Estate and there are 12 beats (6 house rods, 1 family rod and 5 local rods). House rods fish the Home beat, on the north bank. The Durris beat, on the south bank, is fished by our local syndicate. The river is less than five minutes walk from the house. All the pools are accessible by car and a considerable quantity of bank fishing is available, some from cement walkways which makes for easier fishing. Wading is generally easy, although every care should be taken in heavy water as in any river. Some pools can be fished by boat at certain water levels if desired. The main Park Fishing Hut is situated on the river bank close to the centre of the beat and there are further huts at The Kirkjs, Park Inn and the Hertties. Absolutely Scotland, Absolutely Scottish Fishing is by fly only at all times and rods are encouraged to use single or double hooks rather than trebles and to de-barb hooks. The Estate provides two ghillies who are in charge of the beat. Extra knowledgeable ghillies are also available at an additional charge. We can also provide tuition in fly casting. The Dee Board has been at the forefront of conservation of its stocks and the most important single factor that has been implemented is catch and release. Park catches a very large number of salmon, sea trout and grilse and so catch and release is even more important on our beat. For the millennium year Park will be entirely catch and release. However fishers who stay for a week will qualify for a bottle of our sought after single malt, The Park Special, on catching and releasing their second salmon. As usual the shooting season commences at Park with fascinating weekends for followers of muzzle loading and black powder shooting. The Weekend attracts both experts and newcomers to black powder, although a thorough knowledge of shooting is essential for "muzzle loading learners". For beginners we will provide tuition and a " minder " for the shooting day/s along with a gun and the necessary kit. Do please give us plenty of warning if you want to learn so we can have everything ready. Our team will be on hand all day with pattern plate, clays and advice where required. Sandwiches will be available either in the summer house or inside if the weather dictates. Guns can arrive at leisure and try a shot. Beginners will arrive by 10:30am to commence training which will continue after lunch. Gun cleaning will take place at drinks time in the old scullery attended by a bottle of Park Special, our own single malt. Dinner will be served at 8pm, drinks and wine included. Dress will be tidy/casual, ties if desired but not obligatory.(a very historic days for black powder!) A driven day for muzzle loaders. The beaters produce birds in the 1850's with the line stopping on report to allow reloading. Four or five drives will be provided with lunch at a suitable venue. The expected bag for eight guns will be 100 birds. After the ritual of gun cleaning and further sipping of Park's Own, dinner will served at 8pm. This will be followed by a small fireworks display to commemorate the biggest potential black powder bang in history! Guns will have a choice of either using their collectors gun or continuing with a muzzle loader. Or using either as the mood takes you! Collectors guns include anything not normally used at a "modern" shoot. Given time we may be able to supply a suitable gun to those who come without. We also have a supply of black powder 12g cartridges 7/8 oz light load 12g cartridges suitable for nitro proved guns. The Expected bag for eight guns will be 150 birds, the bag on both days depending on how good everyone is. Dinner will be preceded by a champagne farewell to the Park black powder weekend and the wearing of tartan is encouraged for dinner. Guests will be provided with dinner, bed, breakfast and lunch during the weekend, also all wine and beverages are included. Guests may also choose all or part of the weekend and we have to amalgamate the different days depending how everyone books. Lastly please ensure that guns are in good, sound, safe, usable condition, powder are shot are in good condition and suitable for your gun and you are aware of the safe maximum loads etc.
